Locksmith near Villajoyosa: the town, the coast and the valley behind it
One municipality with two built-up centres, 15 km of coast and more than thirty farming partidas, and behind it the valley of the Amadorio running up to Orxeta, Sella and Relleu. Here is every part of it the van goes to, and what to say on the phone so it finds your door.

La Vila Joiosa, part by part
Five parts of one town, and how each is found
The town hall describes La Vila as a walled town at the mouth of the Amadorio, a second settlement at La Cala in the east, a string of coves to the south-west, and a huerta of old farming partidas inland. Each has its own way of being found.
-
The walled old town
Rendered stone houses in bright colours, the best known built on top of the 16th-century wall, with wooden street doors, ironwork and balconies. The whole centre is a protected historic ensemble.
On the phone: About twenty streets sit behind number-plate cameras, with entry for authorised vehicles only. The van parks outside and the locksmith walks in, so say which street and the nearest square or church step.
Includes the painted houses on the wall, carrer del Pal, Costereta, carrer Major, Arsenal, Santa Marta.
-
The town that grew out of the walls
Nineteenth-century streets along the old Alicante–Valencia road, the fishermen’s guild estates of the 1950s to 70s by the port, and the blocks of flats built in the 1960s boom.
On the phone: The street and the nearest cross street, or the TRAM stop you are closest to: La Vila Joiosa, Creueta, Costera Pastor or Hospital Vila.
Includes Poble Nou, Cervantes, Colón, Canalejas, Pòsit, Virgen del Carmen, Barrio Soler, Pati Fosc, la Sicop.
-
La Cala
The second-largest settlement of the municipality, at its eastern end: apartment towers and complexes with pools, a short walk from the beach it shares with Finestrat.
On the phone: The name of the tower or complex, the block and the floor. If you are not sure whether your address is in La Vila or in Finestrat, say so: both are covered.
Includes La Cala de Villajoyosa, Playa del Torres, Racó del Conill.
-
The coast to the south-west
Partidas on the low hills above the coves, with villas, terraced houses and smaller apartment complexes.
On the phone: The partida and the cove you are above, and whether the gate to the house is on the main road or a side lane.
Includes Paradís, Montiboli, Bol Nou, Esparrelló, La Caleta, El Xarco.
-
The huerta partidas
Farmhouses and country houses on the old irrigated land between the Amadorio and the Torres, some grouped in small hamlets that go back to the 18th century.
On the phone: The partida, the camí and something you can see from the gate. Lanes in the huerta look alike, so a WhatsApp location pin sent from the gate itself is the surest way.
Includes Ermita de Sant Antoni, Barberes, Jovades, Plans, Banyets, Torres, Secanet, Serrano, la Torreta, Galandú, Alcocons, Arginent.
Beyond the town
Up the Amadorio valley and along the coast
- Orxeta Just north, behind the Serra Orxeta; the Amadorio reservoir sits on its boundary with La Vila.
- Sella Up the río de Sella, which feeds the reservoir; a village known to climbers for the crags of the Peñón del Divino.
- Relleu Where the Amadorio rises, under the ruins of its castle.
- Finestrat The neighbour to the east: La Cala de Finestrat runs straight into La Cala de Villajoyosa.
- Benidorm Eight kilometres up the coast.
The villages above the reservoir are a longer drive than anywhere in town, and you are told how long before the van sets off. The guide to a lockout up the Amadorio valley covers how to be found and where to wait. El Campello and Aigües, to the west and north, are not covered.
Whatever part you are in
Four things that get the van to the right door
- A location pin sent on WhatsApp from the door itself, not from where you were earlier.
- The landmark people use: a TRAM stop, a cove, a church, the name of the tower or complex.
- Where the van can stop: inside the old town it cannot pass the checkpoints, so say which street the locksmith should walk up. The guide on the old town’s camera zone explains why.
- Gates and floors: a street gate, a pool gate, a block door, the floor and the door number.
